About Mr Hargrave - Consultant Podiatric Surgeon

Mr Hargrave has continued to work in both the NHS and private sector, training in podiatric surgery after passing his primary membership (Podiatry Association) at The University of Manchester in 1993. Award of Fellowship was gained in 1995, after surgical training at Lewisham University Hospital (Fellowship of The College of Podiatrists (surgery) - FCPodS).

After a 3-year period as an Associate Specialist, he secured a Consultant NHS position at Charing Cross Hospital (Hammersmith & Fulham NHS PCT) in 1998 and had also previously set up the Podiatric Surgery services for Lambeth NHS PCT at St Thomas's Hospital in 1996 and later for Sutton & Merton NHS PCT at Sutton Hospital in 2004. After gaining practicing privileges at The Harley Street Clinic in 2002, he has continued to build his private practice with outpatient facilities at 9 Harley Street.

He took up a new NHS post in 2006, where he is the Consultant for The Norfolk Foot Surgery Centre, Norwich, providing services for the whole of the county of Norfolk. With a surgical throughput of 1,400 cases per year, both privately and in the NHS, Mr Hargrave is a vastly experience Consultant foot specialist, having performed over 8000 foot and ankle procedures. His particular specialist interests and extended training lie in the treatment of hallux valgus and mid and hindfoot reconstruction for complex pathological flatfoot conditions and cosmetic foot surgery.

He is a strong believer in achieving technical excellence in the field of foot surgery and continues to frequently lecture on seminars and conferences; and gives training guidance to less experienced colleagues. He has spent time in the USA extending his scope of surgical practice with American podiatric surgeons (Seattle & Chicago) and more recently in Luebeck Germany with both podiatric and orthopaedic foot specialists.

Mr Hargrave is also a registered surgical Tutor and examiner for the Faculty of Surgery, College of Podiatrists, and an expert witness for the Health professions Council (HPC).

The Modern Foot Surgery Specialist

Podiatric surgeons are the only practicing foot surgery specialists in the UK whose entire training spans eleven years totally dedicated to the foot and associated structures. Further to this they are the only foot surgery specialists in the UK who are formally examined in foot surgery and foot surgery techniques.

Mr Hargrave gained a 3-year bachelor of science honours degree in clinical podiatry, award of Fellowship of the College of Podiatry (Surgery) - FCPodS - is gained after 5 further years of post-graduate training and examination by the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery, College of Podiatry. A further 3-years training under a Consultant is then required to gain the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) - 11 years in total.

Podiatric surgeons are independently trained (similar to dental surgeons), and are, therefore, not registered medical practitioners. They are registered under the regulatory body, the Health Professions Council UK (HPC). Mr Hargrave's HPC registration number is CH.9240.
