Our Experience and General Information

The term "Cosmetic Foot Surgeon" - unlike the USA - is only now becoming a recognized term in the UK. As an NHS-trained Consultant Podiatric (foot) Surgeon, I currently hold an NHS Consultant Post, but also work in the private sector on Harley Street in Central London. As such I have performed over 8000 foot and ankle procedures and feel it is very important that patients are made aware that the foot is a unique and complex mechanical structure. Operating on any foot deformity, whether for foot pain or cosmesis, requires a complete understanding of foot biomechanical function, which is essential for excellent post-operative results. This highly specialized area using biomechanical principles is unique and integral to the training of Podiatric Surgeons.

Patients often complain of bunions, unsightly lumps & bumps; bent hammertoes and flatfoot deformities. These can range from arthritic bone bumps around the joints of the feet, to soft-tissue lumps such as ganglion cysts. These may be unsightly and painful and can usually be very simply removed, although arthritic joint lumps may indicate more serious joint disease and can require more extensive surgery. Even painful and unsightly corns can most often be cured by a quick & simple operation.

Painful or not, patients may still be very embarrassed about their feet and frequently report that they would never wear sandals or expose their feet, for example on the beach or at the swimming pool. The feet are certainly no less deserved of cosmetic attention than any other part of the body and providing patients are made aware of the range of post-operative potential risks and complications, as for any operation, then cosmetic foot surgery can be undertaken.
